The unlikely pilgrimage of Harold Fry by Rachel Joyce

Harold Fry has retired from his very boring job. He lives in a small English village with his wife Maureen.  They have been married a very very long time and really don't like each other much, have much in common, or sleep in the same bed.  Harold gets a letter from an old friend Queenie who is dying.  He writes her back and goes to mail the letter and keeps walking 600 miles or so to Queenie, sending postcards to her to not die until he gets to see her.  This is a charmer of a book,  giving the backstory in small bits, to keep the interest going, and you really don't find the punch of the book until the end.  Both Harold and Maureen undergo different transformations during his quest.  No spoiler - won't tell you the ending you'll have to read it yourself.  this is the Council on Aging book of the month for February - to be discussed at the March 14 meeting @ 1:00 in the library.-- join us!
